Help Us, Help the Homeless

  • St Martins Church Edgbaston Street Birmingham, England, B5 United Kingdom (map)

Following on from the huge success of our last Freemasonry in the Community event at Acorns Children’s Hospice which was featured in the 2016 Winter edition of Freemasonry Today magazine we are now planning our next such event and we need your help!

The Birmingham Homeless Outreach is a small charity that was set up back in 2010 by a guy called Rik James, to help Birmingham’s homeless, each evening Rik and his team head out to the streets of the City centre handing out food, drinks, clothes, sleeping bags etc all donated to them by the public and some local retailers.

So how can we help?  As part of a province wide initiative we are going to set up collection points in all of the Masonic meeting rooms, where we are going to ask for donations from the brethren of everything from food and clothes (especially socks) to sleeping bags, we will then collect all of the donations for the second part of this charitable activity.

On the Saturday 28th January 2017 at 2:45pm the Five of Nine Club with family and friends invited will be joining Rik and his team on their rounds, we will meet at St Martins Church, Edgbaston St, Birmingham B5 5BB where we will assist in handing out items to the homeless from the Rag Market, we will then split into groups and head off with outreach workers to meet people who are sleeping rough and give them food, warm clothing and a friendly chat, the whole event taking approximately three hours.

After the feedback, we received from members at Acorns we can assure you that this is going to be an amazing experience where we can take our charity direct to those most in need and you will see first-hand just what a difference it can make.

  • Free event.
  •  Members, non-members, family and friends can attend.
  • Collection points at masonic centres will be announced shortly.
